As the leaves start falling and the days get shorter, tis the season for anything pumpkin and cozy! As the thermostats start to turn on, it’s perfect weather to get comfy and enjoy some movies. Here are 5 movies you should watch as Autumn goes on to get into the fall mood.
Film number 1: Coraline. Is it even spooky season if I do not mention the cult classic which stole all of our hearts as soon as we saw its animated stop motion? ‘Coraline’ is a 2009 stop motion film that explores the thin line between reality and fantasy. Coraline, our young protagonist, has moved to Oregon with her two parents, adapting to a new scenery she is weary of. While investigating her new city, Coraline discovers a secret door that unveils an alternate world of her own where Coraline quickly gets used to in bliss. After discovering that her new alternate family wants to keep her in this new fantasy world forever, Coraline now must find her way out back to the real world. This is a film that has a fantastic storyline and animation that will no doubt catch the attention of viewers new and old. Coraline is the perfect movie to kick off your Autumn must-watch list.
Film number 2: The Corpse Bride. The Tim Burton film is set in Victorian England, where we meet the young Victor and Victoria whom are to be wed due to Victor’s poor financial situation in his family. Victor, horrifically stumbling over his vows in the wedding rehearsal, decides to go over his vows in a forest. While practicing, he accidentally gets dragged to the land of the dead from putting his ring on the finger of a corpse. The corpse bride, Emily is now his declared zombie wife, and now Victor must find his way to get back to the land of the living before his darling Victoria is wedded to another man.
Film number 3: Loving Vincent. As an oil painted animation, the movie “Loving Vincent” follows the years after Vincent van Gogh’s death, where a young man named Armand Roulin is tasked with delivering a letter from Vincent to his brother, Theo. The film serves as a tribute to van Gogh’s artistry, but also a reflection on the impact of his work to those who experienced it. Overall, “Loving Vincent”offers a blend of biography, mystery, and art, making it a thoughtful film about one of history’s most beloved artists.
Film number 4: The Sixth Sense. The psychological thriller film, “The Sixth Sense”, follows the story of a young boy named Cole Sear who has a unique ability: he can see and communicate with the dead. Starling seeks Lecter’s insight to help catch another serial killer known as the “Buffalo Bill”, who abducts and murders young women. As Clarice delves into Lecter’s mind, she confronts her own past and fears. The film culminates itself in a tense yet intricate character development that explores themes of fear, identity, and the nature of evil.
